I am taking a break from Nickworthy.

I know this may come as a shock to many of you who are likely thinking, “What is Nickworthy?”

Well, it’s this somewhat weekly column I’ve been fortunate to have in The Athens NEWSover the last few years. I’ve been thankful for this space where I could write about whatever I wanted, and a few of you hopefully read it.

I can’t thank you enough for reading the column and for commenting about it here or on the street.

I have not had enough time to devote to the column for the past few months, so I decided that it would be better to just shut it down instead of publishing items intermittently.

Thanks to Terry Smith and The Athens NEWSfor letting me have this space for a while, and thanks again to everyone who read the column, even if you thought it was a little stupid at times.

From now on, if you want to know my thoughts on important topics such as why o’clock is a weird word, you’ll have to ask me on the street.

I looked it up and o’clock means “of the clock.” Do we really need to specify that we are referring to the time on the clock? Are there other time systems I am not aware of? Did anyone ever say 10 o’sun dial? And following the same logic, if I am saying the temperature, I should say 72 o’thermometer?

Honestly, I probably will talk to you about this on the street whether you want to or not, and I may offer a few top five lists to discuss with you, too. How about the top five newspaper names? News? Post? Sentinel? Times? Times-Picayune? Each one has its own advantages. It’s a good discussion that we can discuss, too.

Thanks again for letting me share my thoughts with you here over the last few years and for reading this column, even if you were reading it at 11 o’phone.
