To the Editor:

Recently, a panel discussion of women veterans was held in Athens to discuss the connection between military service and how women view their roles in society.

Few people know that women veterans are the fastest-growing group in the veteran community, and represent 8 percent of Ohio’s veteran population. This is a group that is mostly invisible in our society.

As a veteran myself, I am proud to be part of an effort to help increase the visibility of women veterans and empower them. To that end, the Ohio Department of Veterans Services is holding its bi-annual Ohio Women Veterans Conference on Saturday, Aug. 10. The conference offers numerous sessions on issues of importance, such as health care, employment and education.

Preconference activities on Aug. 9 include a tour of the National Veterans Memorial & Museum. I invite all the women veterans in our region to attend this unique event. It’s a great opportunity for fellowship with your sisters in service, to have fun, and to learn from each other. It’s important to remember that #SheServedToo. The deadline to register is July 31 at
