The Athens NEWS strongly supports Issue 4 on the Nov. 7 ballot. This 1.8-mill property tax renewal for the Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be used to maintain and operate the variety of essential services and programs offered by the ACBDD.
This renewal levy will not require additional taxes from property owners in Athens County. It’s one of the ACBDD’s four levies, and represents about 15 percent of the board’s annual budget.
The ACBDD serves and supports children and adults with disabilities in Athens County, helping to integrate them into the community. Some of the essential services provided by the board include Early Intervention Services, Beacon School, Employment Options/PersonnelPlus, Service and Support Administration, Transportation Services, and Adult Day Services through ATCO until December 2018.
One strains to think of a more worthwhile purpose for public dollars than providing help to fellow community members with developmental disabilities.
Join us and vote for Issue 4 on the Nov. 7 Athens County ballot.
