A northwest Ohio woman died Friday of injuries she received in a three-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon on U.S. Rt. 33 southeast of Athens.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Patricia P. Andre, age 58, of Wauseon, Ohio, died at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, after being transported there from Athens. She had been riding in the passenger seat next to Nathan L. Andre, 61, of Wauseon, when the crash occurred.
At about 4 p.m. Thursday, the Patrol reported, Nicholas T. Riffle, 24, of Racine, was driving his 2009 Ford Focus north on U.S. Rt. 33 southeast of Athens. Heading south were Nathan Andre (driving a 2014 Volkswagen Passat) and Deslar J. Malone, 72, of Racine (driving a 2008 Ford F-250 pickup truck), the report said.
Riffle’s Ford Focus went left of center, the Patrol report continued, striking the Andres’ Volkswagen head-on, and then hit Malone’s pickup. “(Riffle’s car) overturned on to its top, slid off the left side of the roadway, and struck a guardrail where it came to rest,” the report said. The collision pushed the Andres’ car off the right side of the roadway where it struck a guardrail and came to rest. The pickup spun around and halted in the middle of the roadway facing north, the report said.
Riffle and the two Andres all suffered injuries, according to the report, with Riffle and Patricia Andre hurt seriously. All three were transported to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital for treatment. Malone, the driver of the pickup, was not injured.
According to the report. “Ms. Andre succumbed to her injuries on Aug. 2 (Friday) at Grant Medical Center after being transported there from O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.”
State Highway Patrol troopers received assistance at the crash scene from the Richland Area Volunteer Fire Department, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, and Athens County Emergency Medical Services, the report said.
The Patrol said that the crash remains under investigation.
