The Nelsonville Music Festival last week announced its Thursday night headliner band for the annual four-day event in early June: the Brooklyn-based funk band Turkuaz, with Talking Heads members Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew.
Harrison, a Talking Heads co-founder, and Belew are touring with Turkuaz to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of Talking Heads’ 1980 album “Remain in Light,” the Nelsonville Music Festival announced on its Facebook page this week. Belew is a respected recording artist in his own right, described as a “multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer and guitar guru.” He also fronted progressive rock band King Crimson from 1981 to 2009.
Meanwhile, NMF announced another big act last week in Black Pumas, an Austin, Texas-based psychedelic soul duo that was nominated in the Best New Artist category at the Grammys last year.
The festival takes place from June 4-7 this year on the Hocking College campus in Nelsonville.
NMF also recently announced that its Friday night headliner will be rising Nashville-based bluegrass star Billy Strings, joining a host of other artists who already have been announced. Other acts announced so far include NMF alum Ezra Furman, Sinkane, Nilufer Yanya, Jay Som, Mdou Moctar and Gregory Alan Isakov, with more announcements on the way.
