The Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine will welcome incoming medical students during the 44thannual Convocation and White Coat Ceremony. More than 240 members of the class of 2023 enrolled across three campuses will hear a keynote address from Theodore E. Wymyslo, M.D., chief medical officer of the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers and former director of the Ohio Department of Health (2011-2014). Dr. Wymyslo will also receive the college’s Phillips Medal of Public Service. In his leadership of the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers, he has worked to improve the quality of care, control medical costs and promote the patient-centered medical home model of care both in Ohio and nationwide. Preliminary statistics on the Heritage College class of 2023 show that 96 percent of the students come from Ohio, 24 percent are from a minority group, and 18 percent are first-generation college students.
