Practical tips to prevent dehydration this summer

* Cut down on exercise. If you must exercise, drink two to four glasses of cool, nonalcoholic, caffeine-free fluids each hour. A sports beverage can replace the salt and minerals you lose in sweat

* Avoid carbonated beverages because the carbonation may cause bloating or a feeling of fullness and prevent adequate consumption of fluids.

* Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing and a wide-brimmed hat.

* Limit sun exposure by wearing sunglasses and repeatedly applying sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher.
