Letter: Thanks from The Birth Circle
May 12, 2008
To the Editor:
May is a big month of celebrations for The Birth Circle! We celebrate our 6th Birthday this month, along with Mother’s Day, International Midwives Day, and Doula Month. A special thank you goes out to all of our hard-working board members and volunteers (past and present), and our co-founder Jenny Hughes. We’d also like to thank all of the amazing incredible midwives, doulas, childbirth educators, nurses and physicians who share our mission to educate, support and empower women and their families on their journey through pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.
Please join The Birth Circle in celebrating our 6 years of service to women and families in our community with two special events: our annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale/English Garden Tour and the Athens Birth Circle Symposium: Birth In America. The Mother’s Day Plant Sale will be held on Sunday May 11th from 10am-3pm at 120 Morris Avenue. The Athens Birth Symposium will take place on Friday, May 16th from 6:30-9:00pm in the Multicultural Room at Baker Center and will include a screening of the recently released documentary “The Business of Being Born,” produced by Ricki Lake, followed by a panel discussion featuring Jennifer Block, author of Pushed: the Painful Truth about Childbirth and Modern Maternity Care.
