Athens arts scene brings artists back home

One of the backbones of the thriving arts community in Athens is ARTS/West. The new director of ARTS/West is Chelsa Peterson, an Athens native and daughter of another icon in the local arts scene, Meigs junior high school music teacher Metra Peterson, who also founded and directs the S.A.T.B. choir. The Athens NEWS talked to mother and daughter together on a recent balmy Sunday afternoon about what it’s been like for them as artists working in the arts in Athens.

Theresa House has been teaching art at East and West elementary schools for 12 years, but last year - when the art teacher from Chauncey started working at West - was the first time she taught arts integration courses at both.
