Athens County Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1990 after a group of inspired citizens heard President Jimmy Carter speak about Habitat. In the 23 years since then, we have completed 28 homes and are finishing our 29th in Athens County.

Athens County Habitat for Humanity is gearing up to join with five other counties in the area to become Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio.

Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976. Since then it has built safe, affordable homes for millions of families in need world -wide. It does this by branching into affiliates, like the Athens County Habitat for Humanity, which services this area only. Other counties have their respective affiliates. ACHFH branches into three volunteer coalitions that work tirelessly year-round at fundraising. And when it comes time to build, they build, too.

Athens County Habitat for Humanity is doubling its previous annual building schedule to a total of four builds this year, and this new pace will be the norm for now on.

Criteria information including the need for adequate housing, gross income ranges, ability to pay for a Habitat home and willingness to partner with Habitat.

Habitat for Humanity's retail enterprise, ReStore, formerly located in The Plains, moved to 309 W. Union St. in March.

Athens County Habitat for Humanity is building more than houses. The non-profit organization is growing, which includes hiring more helping hands. Tiffany Tomeo was recently hired as the youth engagement and volunteer director.
