Film chronicles short and exciting life of producer’s relative who died in World War I

"Ruth Holden, Heroine of the Great
War," a documentary produced by local filmmaker Amy Abercrombie, will
debut in Athens this weekend. The film tells the little-known story of
the short but fulfilling life of World War I figure Ruth Holden, who was
once considered a fictional character even by her descendants.
The Tuvan throat-singing trio, Alash,
will perform an intimate concert in Jackie O's Brewery at 7:30 p.m. on
Thursday, May 1. This will be the second installment in Jackie O's Quiet
Concert Series, a program that debuted last fall.
In a bizarre musical universe where
country-rock, Texas outlaw country, Southern rock and, indeed, Bob Dylan
and Neil Young never existed, Jay Farrar is considered a "pioneer" of
alternative country music.
