Mavis Staples to ‘finish’ her ’13 NMF appearance

More acts have been announced to perform at the 11th annual Nelsonville Music Festival, sponsored by Stuart's Opera House, according to a news release. This fifth round of lineup announcements includes the legendary soul singer Mavis Staples on May 29 and afro-beat/soul-jazz/funk instrumental masters The Budos Band on May 30.

Exhibit documents spring 1970 anti-war protests in Athens

The Athens County Historical Society and Museum is hosting a new exhibit, opening today (April 16) from 5-7 p.m. at 65 North Court St., according to a news release. The exhibit is a black-and-white photographic display of images in Athens and at Ohio University during the spring of 1970.

OU spring dance show features 3 solos, 3 groups

The Division of Dance at Ohio University is presenting its Spring Senior Dance Concert this weekend. Performed in four shows over two nights, Friday and Saturday, April 17 and 18, the concert will feature six new choreographic works by the senior dance majors.

Events set to honor 150th anniversary of Civil War’s end

On April 9, 1865, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox, Virginia. Some 150 years later, the Athens County Historical Society & Museum is celebrating the closing phase of the war and the return home of Athens Countians who served their country.
