The Ohio University End Slavery Movement has partnered with Free The Girls to sponsor a bra drive in the Athens area.
Free The Girls is a non-profit organization that provides job opportunities to women rescued from sex trafficking. The bra drive is used to collect gently-used bras that are then donated to the rescued women as starting inventory for their own business selling the bras.
"To be able to get as many bras donated from OU ESM and Ohio University would be an incredible contribution. Just 200 to 300 bras could take a woman out of sex slavery for up to two years," Megan Gallagher, president of OU End Slavery Movement said in the release.
The OU ESM bra collection began on March 12 and will last until March 22. New or slightly used bras can be donated at any of the collection locations across campus, including Baker Center, Alden Library, the uptown Chase Bank, or any sorority house.
