In a letter to Ohio University students Saturday, an OU official said she was "deeply saddened" by the death of a freshman student, which is under investigation.
In the letter, Dean of Students Jenny Hall-Jones said that Michael Robinson, a first-year psychology pre-physical therapy student, died unexpectedly in Atkinson Hall Saturday. OU Police responded, and county EMS personnel confirmed Robinson's death, the letter said.
"Based on the information that OUPD has at this time, there is no reason to believe that there is an ongoing danger to the community," the letter added.
Hall-Jones reported that Student Affairs staff from Residential Housing and Counseling & Psychological Services (CPS) have been on-site in Atkinson Hall and Foster House providing support to students. She reminded students that they can speak with a counselor 24/7, by calling 593-1616, or can attend walk-in hours at CPS from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. For residential students, counselors-in-residence are available in 122 Jefferson Hall (593-0769) and can be accessed Sunday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
