Why run unsigned ‘Voice’ submissions?

To the Editor:

How easy is it to call your office and leave a message with no name/address to be included in "The Athens Voice." However, if I want to have my editorial printed, I am required to leave a name and city. By the way, I disagree with "The Voice" and The Athens NEWS publishing those comments. If you have an opinion, be willing to have your name printed."

Judy Brown
Athens

Editor's note: I respect your opinion, Judy, and you do make a good point. While the distinction can seem muddy, we see the Voice submissions as inconsequential but entertaining blurbs about top-of-mind issues folks come up with. It's like what you'd overhear someone stating at a coffee shop or grocery store, and shouldn't carry any more weight, consequence or credibility than that. Our letters, meanwhile, are intended to be more deliberate statements of someone's opinion, and as a result should be signed by them. Well, anyway, that's the way we've worked this out, and apologies for the unforgivable editorial crime of adding a longer editor's note than the letter it's responding to. TS
