What’s up with the Messenger’s bizarre NEWS-bashing column?

To the Editor:

'Tis the season to be jolly and now the follies have come to that silly publication on Johnson Rd.

Instead of gathering news, they waste one third of a page to editorialize about your edition, which incidentally I find better written and far more interesting. I just realized that I buy The Messenger only because I am of an age where obits are important to me.

While they sit deskbound, asking us to send them news tips. Seems to me that I was once told that newspapers are gatherers of news, more accurate than neighbors. Guess I am old fashioned?

I had to notify them that they failed to cover an OU basketball game for two editions. Another time they gave two starting times for a coming game in the same article. Can anyone out there read or do they just "hunt & peck"?

Would you please relay to them that in their neighborhood (Plains area) there have been 29 break-ins and robberies in the month of November. Nary a word in the Mess.
I give up!

Harry, maybe you missed the Messenger attacking ads that have been running in the NEWS for awhile now.

I read the NEWS all the time, but it has gotten tacky how much they attack others instead of promoting themselves.

I did a quick search after the Messenger piece and couldnt even find records of the NEWS publisher owning property in Athens

Greetings: The Athens Messenger has their nose so far up the *** of the Athens County Sheriff they do not qualify as journalist.

Kelly is being able to spoon feed his nonsense to them while refusing to return calls from the Athens News. Even going as far to trying to have two employees of the Athens News fired.

How much longer are the special prosecutor going to drag out their investigations of the Sheriff and his corrupted officers who allow this nonsense to continue. In years past Sheriff's had the understanding to resign for the better good of the county, Kelly spews his lies at WAIS Radio View Point and the only paper in town requiring subscriptions, go figure.
