On most levels, we are better off than we were four years ago

To the Editor:

I have an answer to the Republicans' old, tired slogan: "Are you better off?" It is: Yes we are! That makes a good chant. Yes we are! Yes we can!

I am 80 – a Roosevelt baby – and I remember how long it took to come back from the Depression. The new medical care may make it easier for people like me to get health insurance. The guys are coming home from a war we should not have started, housing values are rising, and foreclosure is no longer a nightmare scenario. Other nations speak to us again after George W. Bush. Yes we are! Yes we are!

James,

Once again showing what a petty, little human you are. Attacking someone who has experienced more than you ever will, with your mingset, is sad.

I doubt she was "too young to appreciate how bad the depression was." She saw the turn-around, and the slow, difficult process that involved.

You lost your job and haven't found one in 16 months. I know of plenty of farm work available, or is that too tough for you? Maybe it's your attitude keeping you unemployed. That "English" degree didn't pan out for you?

By the way, I'm much beter off than 4 years ago. Same employer, but making twice what I had been then, while helping others to earn more, also.

James,

With your attitude, I wouldn't burden the employers I know. You ridicule me before you get a job, then say "get in touch." Tell me why. Why would I burden friends with your attitude? Keep picking on those who could/would help, and see how long you stay unemployed. I suspect that is a major component of your problem getting/maintaining employment.

James,

You didn't pick on Ms. Jeffers? How about your opening lines, "You've been on assistance for years, how would you know if we're better off or not?"

How would you know if she's "been on assistance for years? Why would that preclude her knowing whether we're better off or not?

So, as you portray yourself here, you're rude, prejudiced, and a liar. Certainly no one I would attach my name to as a reference.
