Charles R. "Shake" Thompson, 74, formerly of The Plains, died Sunday morning, June 10, 2012, at Villa Angela Nursing Home in Columbus after a long illness. Born December 19, 1937 in The Plains, he was the son of the late Herbert and Emma Thompson.
A 1956 graduate of The Plains High School, he retired as a diesel engine mechanic for Conrail Railroad. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He is survived by two sisters, Gracie Thompson Cox and Lois Thompson Green; a nephew, Lamoyne Green; a niece Lezli (Kelvin) Harris; four great nieces, Tasha, Takisha, Tiera and Tyra; and three great-great nephews, Cameron, Landon and Cailen.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers: Herbert, Sr.; Lloyd "Bunk"; and Carlos "Joe" Thompson.
Funeral service will be conducted Friday 2:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, 24 Morris Ave., Athens, Ohio 45701. Visitation will be Friday 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
