Athens plays host to the prince of darkness Friday night. No, not Beelzebub himself. And not Ozzy Osborne either, but close. Little Ozzy, a diminutive version of the Blizzard of Ozz will appear with his band at The Union.
Little Ozzy recently got some national exposure when he appeared on "America's Got Talent," a show judged by Sharon Osborne, the wife of the famed Black Sabbath frontman. The show is also judged by Howard Stern and Howie Mandel.
In literature provided by Little Ozzy, he said that it was cool to meet Sharon Osborne after Stern invited him to go hug the judge.
"They filmed me walking down through the crowd to the judges' booth where the beautiful in-person Sharon Osbourne stood with arms wide open," he said. "It was a very cool thing."
Little Ozzy is 4 foot 8 inches short, and looks and sounds very much like Ozzy Osborne.
"For the first time ever, there is a little person Ozzy Osbourne Tribute in the U.S.!" press materials declare. "This act actually plays their instruments and is a killer Real band. Other little people acts lip synch to tracks... NOT LITTLE OZZY!"
Little Ozzy is played by Lin Doak, a Virginia native who grew up performing in children's theater under the guidance of his grandmother. He is joined by David Runner on lead guitar, Doobie Lanzilotti on drums and Ryan Johnson on bass.
"The band has been together only two years and are packing big stages and casinos all over the country and was personally invited by GWAR to headline their annual GWAR –BQ," the press materials say. "They have shared the stage with such acts as Warrant, Corrosion Of Conformity, Kix, Skid Row, Jackyl and many more. This is a huge draw, people love this show, and you are in for a real treat."
Doak became known as a member of the little person band, MINIKISS, a tribute to KISS. He left that project in an effort to form a real live band, where no backing tracks are used.
Most recently, Doak has been making numerous trips to California, filming and pitching a reality show called "Little Rockers."
"Lin is much more than a little person," his website states. "He can sing lead vocals, play guitar, bass, and drums well enough to play with anyone!"
