OU student found dead in house on Palmer

Police don't state cause of death, though 'no foul play suspected'

A 21-year-old Ohio University student died Sunday at a house on Palmer Street, Athens Police confirmed late Sunday evening.

They identified the man as Steven Thomas Rung, 21, of Westlake, a suburb of Cleveland. The police news release said Rung was "also possibly known as Steven Rung Meno."

Police said that Sunday evening they responded "to a call of a deceased person at a residence on Palmer Street… No suspicious elements were uncovered, and no foul play is suspected in this incident."

In a separate release later on Sunday evening, Ryan Lombardi, OU's interim vice president for student affairs, confirmed the student's death. "Our hearts are heavy tonight, and we extend our thoughts and condolences to his family and friends. Stephen was a junior in the College of Business and a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity," Lombardi said.

He added that students who would like to talk with a counselor are encouraged to call Counseling & Psychological Services at 740-593-1616 (24/7) or attend walk-in hours between 10 a.m. and 3p.m., Monday through Friday.

Lombardi said he had been in contact with Rung's family and will provide additional details about services once they are available.

Neither release, either from Lombardi or the Athens Police, indicated any cause of death.

Students on Palmer Street said an ambulance arrived at about 7:20 p.m. Sunday, and around 8 p.m., brought out what looked like a covered body. They said the house was 23 Palmer St., though the police report didn't give an address.

Later on Sunday, students' Facebook pages were full of comments and speculation about Rung's death.
