The idea that Obama is good for women doesn’t hold water

To the Editor:

Re: Lauren Burr (Athens NEWS, May14) on Obama's "advocacy" for women:

Equal pay for equal work has been the law for nearly 50 years. The oft-quoted "women earn 80 cents to a man's dollar" reflects gender differences in occupation. Men dominate in jobs requiring physical and financial risk, unpleasant environments and longer work hours. Women leave the workforce, work fewer hours, and choose family-friendly jobs over higher-paying occupations far more than men. Marriage and motherhood distinguishes us, not discrimination.

Oh wait – in Obama's White House, where men and women truly do similar work, median salary for men is $71,000, for women $60,000.

Lilly Ledbetter's Act is a trial lawyers' dream. But if employers will be exposed to discrimination suits for years after a woman quits, they may be less inclined to hire women period.

Obamacare "passed" by a corrupted, bribe-infested process. Most Americans oppose it. Every claim Obama made for it has been proven false: Costs are massively higher. Your "free" preventive care must be paid by somebody. An unelected, politicized bureaucracy will rule over patients and doctors alike. Scheduled cuts to Medicare will be devastating to older women (and men), as fewer medical providers will remain in practice under such conditions. If Obamacare is wonderful, why has Barack granted hundreds of waivers to his favored constituencies?

The true rate of unemployed or underemployed adults is 14-15 percent, highest since the Depression. Those who have given up and dropped out of the labor force are not reflected in published figures of 8.1 percent. Oppressive taxation and regulation kill opportunity for men and women alike. Taxes on most forms of income and assets are scheduled to soar in January. Your share of the massive deficits Obama has generated is far more destructive to your wellbeing than student loan interest, which, if you can't find work, won't matter. If you do find work, Ms. Burr, increasing portions of your income will be consumed in support of Obama's entitlement state.

Obama's campaign slanders Ann Romney, who raised five boys through breast cancer and MS. Conversely, he welcomes support from Bill Maher, major league misogynist.

Obama backs the Muslim Brotherhood with words, action and money. The Brotherhood espouses Sharia Law, where women have fewer legal protections than an American dog, and where gays and lesbians are executed.

Tell me again, Ms. Burr, how Obama is "good" for women.

Wow, Ms. Costanzo. You have superseded even yourself with your lack of understanding of women's issues. And Obama backs the Muslim Brotherhood? I hear Twilight Zone theme music. You are a free enterpriser, I would assume, which would mean you would back anyone with money supporting anyone they choose, e.g. Bill Mahr. But you, like most Republicans, are just so full of yourself just can't see the trees for the money. Baloney, Ms. Costanzo, like most of your letters are. You ain't all that. Should I send this as a letter to the Editor? Up to you, readers. I personally think Ms. Costanzo is a waste of time.

Wow! All the Republican talking points with more than a smattering of fantasy.(Sharia law, really?) You appear to have taken a dive right into the Kool-Aid and are intent on drinking your way out! No, I get it you're just putting us on.

Amen, Plainsman. They all speak from the same playbook and think no one is on to them.

Well hopefully we won't have to worry about obama after the election.  Fuel prices have doubled. Millions are still unemployed. Health care costs are rising intstead of falling as obama said they would.  Enviro whack jobs at the EPA are regulating our companies out of business. Other federal agencies have even raided Gibson guitar factory and stole a million dollars worth of wood they have used for years to make guitars.  Labor dept. harassing farmers and dictating who and who cannot work on a farm. Almost $6 trillion of debt  which the obama regime ran up spending more money than the last 5 presidents. And holding up thousands of jobs by preventing the XL Pipline from proceeding.

Obama has got to go in November!  Absolutely the worst president in U. S. history!

President Obama is the worst President in history? Remember that little Alfred E. Newmann guy who drove the bus into the ravine? George W. Bush. Thank him for our economy. It took him 8 years to get us here, and it's going to take longer to shovel us out of this shit. Do some research on tar sands before you go touting the XL pipeline. It's really easy. And while you're at it, research the tar sands mess that no one knows how to clean up.
