It’s not just the Ohio University men’s basketball team that won honors recently for its play. the school’s debating team won a national championship March 15-18 in Overland, Kansas.
The Speaking and Debating Bobcats are scheduled to be honored this Wednesday for their recent state and national championships by the Ohio House of Representatives. State Rep. Debbie Phillips, D-Albany, extended the invitation to the event at the Statehouse. Also, Ohio Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor on March 15 issued a proclamation congratulating the OU forensics/debating team for its success at the Ohio Forensics Association State Championship.
The Speaking and Debating Bobcats of OU were named National Champions of the Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Tournament, picking up 62 awards, including nine individual national titles.
The Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament (PKD-NCT) brings together nearly 70 college and universities that compete in both speech and debate. OU was named National Champions in both the Overall and Individual Events (Speech) divisions, as well as placing second in the Debate Sweepstakes.
Team members have brought home nine individual national championships and three team national titles this year.
