Archie Stanley has worked well with county’s village mayors

As a former councilman and mayor of the village of Chauncey, I am lending my support for re-election of Archie Stanley as Athens County engineer.

While serving as a member of the Athens County Village Mayors Association, we individually and as a group called on Archie on different occasions for advice and support in how to handle many of our road, alleys and bridge issues. Archie was always available and supportive in helping us deal with our local problems.

He discussed our problems based on how he scheduled his plans for building and maintaining the county roads and bridges. He would discuss his annual maintenance plan (based on the money available) – the most traveled areas and those that needed immediate attention as emergencies arise. During my time in village government, I was able to observe how he handles his duties as engineer. He was always available to us, and I'm sure to his other constituents in helping solve whatever problems arose.

I feel that he has demonstrated efficiency and effectiveness in carrying out his duties as county engineer, whether dealing with road and bridge conditions or in managing his department and dealing with the employees' union contracts to the satisfaction of both the employees and the county.

I remember how he was able to sell the county facilities on busy East State Street and acquire a larger facility farther out and away from traffic at no additional cost to the county.

I do not know Jeff Maiden personally. I'm sure he is a fine engineer. I knew his father, Rex Maiden. He was a very good friend of mine and had my support when he was a county engineer, but why change when you have a capable and dedicated person – who has the experience and knowledge and knows every mile of county roads – doing the job now?
