Rep. Johnson to host pro-fracking forum in Marietta

U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Marietta, is co-hosting "Catching the Wave: Economic Impact and Development Forum – Ohio Shale Development" this Friday at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta.

Doors open at 11 a.m., and Rep. Johnson will speak at 4:30 p.m.

According to a news release, this free forum will bring in speakers from communities already experiencing the economic impact of shale drilling, oil and gas experts, and more. The release said the event is intended to help businesses located in eastern and southeastern Ohio "learn more about opportunities for new or expanding products and services." Rep. Johnson will offer insights into legislative issues and job opportunities surrounding the shale, the release said.

Additional speakers and panelists, according to the release, include: Bill Polacek, president/CEO of JWF Industries, a welding and fabrication shop located  n western Pennsylvania; Jack Pounds, Ohio Chemistry Council; Shawn Bennett, Energy in Depth; J.R. Shaw, E.D., Washington Co., Pa., Tourism Promotion Agency; Amy Rutledge, E.D., Carroll County Chamber; David Mustine, Jobs Ohio; Linda Woggon, Ohio Chamber of Commerce; Rhonda Reda, OOGEEP; Rebecca Heimlich, Ohio Energy Resource Alliance; Tom Stewart, OOGA; and State Rep. Andy Thompson.

Rep. Johnson represents the Sixth District, which currently includes most of Athens County. Much of Athens County is being shifted to the newly drawn 15th District effective January 2013, though this year's primary and general elections will elect representatives for those new districts.
