MUSIC:

• Maplewood Tavern holds an open stage every Thursday night at 9.

Every Thursday evening Zach Parkman & Jeremy Wright will be performing an acoustic set at Casa Lopez Mexican restaurant at 1017 E. State St. from 6-9 p.m.

ART:

• The 2012 Ohio University School of Art Faculty Exhibition, part of the College of Fine Arts 75th anniversary. Through April 15.

On exhibit at the Athens Public Library: "What to My Wondering Eyes Should Appear?" Photographs by Patricia Lauchman in the circulation area and "Gourd-geous Gourds" by Carrie Rogers, Renee' Fossett and Celia Wetzel (The Southeast Ohio Gourd Patch) in the display cases through January.

A Civil War artillery shell display is at the Athens Historical Society and Museum in conjunction with the sesquicentennial of the war. It will run until June 2012.

• Place, space, and composition: Recent Works by Mame Redwood at Art Apocalypse Now, 16 W. Union St., Athens, through Jan. 28.

• Ohio Border Biennial Exhibition of OH 5. Dairy Barn Arts Center, Athens. Through March 11.

• Emerging Artists: High School Photography Exhibition, featuring photographs by students from Athens High School and Federal Hocking High School. Through April 8, Kennedy Museum of Art, OU.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Brown Bag Series: Campus and community members are invited to attend a Girlfriend's Guide to Activism, noon to 1 p.m. at the Ohio University Women's Center in Baker Center, Room 403. This program is free and open to the public, sponsored by United Campus Ministry (UCM: Center for Spiritual Growth and Social Justice) and is a part of the OU Women's Center weekly Brown Bag series.  

Presentation: Local cartoonist Stephen Richter will be featured at the Athens Book Center, 74 E. State. St., from 7-8 p.m. Richter will discuss how he creates cartoons and graphic novels. He will also be signing his new publication, "Existential Fish."

The opening reception for the Hocking College seventh annual Glass Invitational. 6-10 p.m. at the Hocking College Art Gallery on Public Square in Nelsonville, as part of Nelsonville's Historic Square Art District's Final Friday activities. Featuring the artwork of national artist Alex Adams.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Friday Night Life: A free community meal for people from all walks of life, especially including those in need. 5:30 p.m. every Friday. The meal is provided by churches and community groups who volunteer. For info, call Good Works at 594-3339.

Free Food: The Nelsonville Community Center has a free lunch open to the public every Friday from noon to 1 p.m.

UPC Event: Before the Puck Drops - University Program Council Event

Fracking Event: Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) will co-host "Catching the Wave: Economic Impact and Development Forum – Ohio Shale Development. Doors open at 11 a.m., Rep. Star-walk on the Ridges: Saunter beneath the starry winter skies with the Southeast Ohio Astronomical Society. 7 p.m. at the entrance to the Kennedy Museum of Art on The Ridges. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight.

International Studies Forum: Brandon Kendhammer, assistant professor of Political Science at Ohio University, will speak on "The Area Studies Debate in Political Science: Learning How (and How Not) to Generalize" at 3 p.m in Bentley Hall 124, OU.

Movie: "Paranormal Activity 3": Free Movie Event

9 p.m. in Baker Theater, OU.

Fracturing Presentation: A public presentation on the environmental, economic and health-related impacts of horizontal hydraulic fracturing. The event will feature Calvin Tillman, as seen in the anti-fracking film "Gasland." 2 p.m. Ohio University Morton Hall room 237. Following the event will be a casual reception at Jackie O's at 5 p.m. to give individuals an opportunity to speak directly to Tillman and Bond. Presentation: The Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery presents "Wise About Eyes," an interactive exhibit that explores the eye. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. And at 11 a.m. "How the Eyes Works" will be presented by OU medical students. Hocking College music professor George Hertzel, a working studio and live musician for more than 25 years, is performing at 9:30 p.m. every Sunday at Casa Cantina. His solo shows will include "a stage with keyboard instruments everywhere." Free.

Fundraising Event: Inhale Yoga Studio at 29 E. Carpenter St. in Athens is hosting a special fundraising event for the Kachenko family. A silent auction runs from noon to 3:30 p.m., as well two classes being offered, one at noon and again at 2 p.m., in which all proceeds will be going to the Kachenko family.
