‘Viewshed’ a valuable asset if we value what our eyes can see

To the Editor:

O Debbie Williams! Viewshed is a "completely made up, ridiculous word that means nothing"? (Letter to Editor Jan. 19.) It means: what you see from a given point. Not only the trees. A viewshed often refers to a landscape far away, but technically it could include ye olde brickyard stable wine-shop viewed from certain points along Stimson Avenue. If you like what you see, it may be a scenic viewshed. What a nice word.

As for "completely made up," what word is not?
