Berthald O'Dell Marshington, 90, of Albany, better known to his friends as "Steamboat" went to be with the Lord, Sunday January 23, 2012, at Russell's Nursing Home. He was born in Dexter, Ohio, in Meigs County on November 24, 1921.
He was a Army veteran of WWII, a life member of the K.T. Crossen Post 21, American Legion where he was past commander, active in the American Legion Baseball and the 40 & 8 Club. He was very proud of the work he did with the American Legion. He was also a member of McArthur Eagles, Albany VFW Post 9893, Athens D.A.V. and the Carpenter Baptist Church.
He is survived by sisters Kay (Roy) Thomas and Helen Sabo, both of Etna Green, IN., a brother Ronald Marshington; several nieces and nephews and cousins Beulah and Dick Crossen who have been his caregiver for several years. The family want to thank Dr. Batchelor and the staff of Russell Nursing Home for their special care during his last days.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Maggie and Doug Chaney; grandparents Edward and Sarah McLaughlin; his father Emerson Marshington; a sister and brother-in-law Mary and Elmer Pickens; and a brother-in-law James Sabo.
Services will be Friday at 11 A.M. at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, with Pastor Bert Christian officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens where military services will be by Albany VFW Post 9893, Athens VFW Post 3477, and K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion. Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
