Thanks to all who spoke up for Chauncey school on Jan. 11

To the Editor:

I would just like to thank everyone that came to Athens High School on Jan. 11 for our school board meeting. Thank you to everyone who got up and spoke on behalf of our great school Chauncey Elementary. I was very proud of everyone who stated the facts and told the great stories! I want to thank the board members for taking the time to hold a special meeting to hear all of us.

I feel in my heart that if they choose to close a school, so many children will be left behind due to bigger classrooms. I understand they need to cut the budgets, but there are other ways to do that. I don't understand why one elementary school is getting picked on when there are seven schools total in the district. This is supposed to be a short fix to the problem, Supt. Martin said, but when all is said and done, everyone is going to be affected by all this. These children deserve the best education they can get, and closing down a school is not the answer!
