THURSDAY

MUSIC:

• Open acoustic jam night. Thursdays at the Nelsonville Eagles Lodge bar.

• Musicians Open Stage. Every Thursday at Donkey Coffee from 9 p.m. to midnight.

• Maplewood Tavern holds an open stage every Thursday night at 9.

Every Thursday evening Zach Parkman & Jeremy Wright will be performing an acoustic set at Casa Lopez Mexican restaurant at 1017 E. State St. from 6-9 p.m.

• Ohio University's Emerging Artist Series presents The Burning River Ramblers (whose members attend OU), named as one of the "Top 25 Bands to Watch" by the Cleveland Plain Dealer. 8 p.m. in the Front Room, Baker Center, OU.

Ekoostik Hookah at Jackie O's Public House. 10 p.m.

• Nobrow Music Collective presents "A New Music Dance Party." Free. The Union.

• Phantods, Zapano and State Park. Casa Cantina. Free.

• Benefit to save local children's music program, featuring Station Break Blues Band, BrotherTiger, DJ Baritcus and BustedBASS. 10 p.m. Jackie O's Brewery.

ART:

• The 2012 Ohio University School of Art Faculty Exhibition, part of the College of Fine Arts 75th anniversary. Through April 15.

On exhibit at the Athens Public Library: "What to My Wondering Eyes Should Appear?" Photographs by Patricia Lauchman in the circulation area and "Gourd-geous Gourds" by Carrie Rogers, Renee' Fossett and Celia Wetzel (The Southeast Ohio Gourd Patch) in the display cases through January.

A Civil War artillery shell display is at the Athens Historical Society and Museum in conjunction with the sesquicentennial of the war. It will run until June 2012.

Alumni and current student Skype interviews for the OU College of Fine Arts' 75th anniversary. Interviews will be used for anniversary events, School of Art website and curriculum. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Feb. 2. Sign up at http://www.finearts.ohio.edu/art/75thAnniversary.htm.

• Place, space, and composition: Recent Works by Mame Redwood at Art Apocalypse Now, 16 W. Union St., Athens, through Jan. 28.

Free Food: The Nelsonville Community Center provides a free breakfast to anyone under 18 Monday through Friday at 9 a.m.

Free screenings: The Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) will provide free breast health education and breast cancer screenings for uninsured and underinsured women ages 40 to 49 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Heritage Community Clinic in Grosvenor West Hall on the West Green of the Ohio University campus.  Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling toll free at 1-800-844-2654 or 740-593-2432.

Bird Walk: Join our growing group of Athens-area birders for a bird walk, from 9 a.m. to noon on the Ridges. Meet at the parking lot at the end of Piggery Lane (just past the mini-golf course and baseball field). Bring binoculars and field guides. Be prepared for mildly strenuous uphill climbs, and dress for wet and muddy conditions.

SUNDAY

MUSIC:

Hocking College music professor George Hertzel, a working studio and live musician for more than 25 years, is performing at 9:30 p.m. every Sunday at Casa Cantina. His solo shows will include "a stage with keyboard instruments everywhere." Free.

• Faculty Chamber Music Series performance of "Something New" with director Stephen Miahky, guest artist Alan Terricciano of the University of California-Irvine. Presented by the OU School of Music in Recital Hall. 4 p.m.

• The group 16 Strings will be at Restaurant Salaam playing jazz with a Chest Atkins twist during the dinner hours, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dean Inboden and Audie Wykle on dueling guitars with Nick Weiland on upright bass.

High Society Jazz Band with guest artist clarinetist and vocalist Bill Kenney. Sponsored by the High Society Jazz Association and open to the public. Abrio's Brick Oven. 3:30-6 p.m.
