Another rape reported in Mill-Stewart area

Several attacks reported last spring in same area

Another rape has been reported in the Mill Street student neighborhood of Athens.

The OU Police Department issued a campus crime alert Friday afternoon about a reported rape in the area of the Seigfred Hall parking lot last Saturday. The victim reported the rape on Thursday.

The report said that a female (no other identification provided) reported to the OUPD that she was raped Saturday night, Sept. 24. The report described the area as near Playground Drive and the Seigfred parking lot, between 55 and 69 Mill St. The church's address is 69 Mill Street. Playground Drive is the short road that loops behind the church and runs between it and the Seigfred lot.

The crime alert said that no other information was received, including a description of the alleged rapist.

Other sexual assaults have taken place in the Mill Street area over the past several months, including a woman who reported being raped at knifepoint in the Mill-Stewart Street area on April 17, 2011, and another sex-related attack reported in the same area on April 29. Another sex assault was reported in mid-April at the nearby Riverpark Towers student apartment complex.

At the time, the OUPD said it felt the attacks were probably not related.

Anyone with information about the most recent reported rape or previous sexual assaults should contact the OU Police at (740) 593-1911, or to leave anonymous tips with Crime Solvers at (740) 594-3331.

The OUPD offers the following personal safety reminders:

Avoid walking alone

Call Safe-T Patrol for an escort at (740) 593-4040 if you can't find a friend to walk with you. Last spring, this service was extended to the Mill Street area.

Stay on well-travelled pathways

Remain alert to what's going on around you

Report suspicious people to police by calling 911.

How many of these rapists have they caught so far? Has it just been swept under the rug like so many colleges campuses have done so as to not hurt enrollment?

What a terrible tragedy that is in no way the fault of the victim.

Im not going to put any fingers, but I honestly feel like there is a new element of people (not necessarily always students, but perhaps their 'acquaintances') that the current administration has encouraged by bringing into athens.  People who, academically, have no business here.

Ladies...please start protecting yourselves!  I'ts your right to walk down any street in the USA, anytime day or night without fear of being attacked by some pervert.  You need to protect yourselves NOW before you are the next victum.  If a few of these perverts land in the ER Room maybe more of them will think twice before attacking someone.
