To the Editor:
Don't forget to register to vote.
As a fairly new resident to Athens, I made it a priority to find a home within the city limits and register to vote. The deadline to register or change your address with the Athens County Board of Elections is 30 days prior to an election. That gives you until Oct. 7 to drop off your information to 15. S. Court St., Room 130.
Don't forget; every vote counts.
My vote is going to Randy Morris for mayor. I have had the privilege to work with Randy at the National Business Incubation Association. It's rare to meet a person with the level of integrity, honesty and fairness that he exhibits daily. In his job as director of membership services, Randy extends those same characteristics to our members just as he will to the citizens of Athens.
I know Athens is a liberal town, and as an independent, I tend to lean left in many issues. But this is a clear race where you can't simply vote straight party lines. Take the time to get to know the candidates for their character, their leadership abilities and their issues. If you do, you'll see what I see in Randy Morris someone who takes public service seriously, someone who is a decisive leader, someone who will dedicate his term to integrity and competence, and someone who cherishes Athens and its people as much as we all do.

Sorry, Kim, but after the last time Randy ran, all I saw was a whiner, blaming his loss on first one group then another. On the other hand, I regularly see our Mayor involved with the community, and keeping the promises he made and makes. His take on responsible, sustainable growth is admirable for it's long range considerations.
There is a big difference between whining and reporting crimes and violations of ethics. Sad that you don't have a bigger problem with local democrats trying to manipulate an election. Have a look at the facts, their behavior was shameful!
I see our mayor attempting to spend 1.75 million of our tax dollers without asking how much the interest on the loan will be, making an offer of 1.75 million dollars to someone who doesn't even own the land. I see him hiding it from the taxpayers. Ridiculous.
Take a side by side comparison of the qualifications between Randy Morris and our current mayor. I think you'll find our current administartion seriously lacking in the necessary skills. Take a side by side look at community involvement, and I think you'll also find that Randy Morris is the best choice for the future of Athens.
Simply put, I disagree. Randy has short term solutions with lng term consequence. I remember complaints forpeople being paid to bring people to vote, there was/is no control over how they might vote.
Yeah, sure the free pizza and $5. they were promised by the democrats who drove them to vote didn't influence them at all. Silliness. Talk about short term solutions with long term consequences. Great example to set.
I think you need to have another look at both candidates, their ideas and positions. Have a look at the Q&A and Issues pages on Morris's website, www.morrisforathens.com. You might be surprised by what he has to offer the city of Athens and us taxpayers.
GAG,
The money wasn't to the voters, but to the people who transported them to the polls. You should get the facts straight before you form an opinion. Here's a link to help your memory, http://www.athensmessenger.com/news/article_9842e92c-98a4-5fea-b010-15421f41aaad.html .
What I read on Randy's website didn't particularly impress me. Generally disagreeing with existing practice, but no solutions other than to change them, vague responses to real questions.
