Whether you and your family show patriotism by splashing around at the Free Pool Party at the Athens City Pool or enjoying the fireworks on East State Street, you are guaranteed to have a great time this Fourth of July.
This year, along with the traditional Independence Day activities, citizens will have the opportunity to give to the Athens community; food collections will take place at all Athens event sites. All proceeds and donations benefit the Athens County Food Pantry and the Lions Club's Eyeglass Fund.

Saturday, July 2, 7 p.m. Enjoy Ohio National Guard's 122nd Army Band concert on OU's College Green in a special edition of the Concert Under the Elms series. Rain takes the event inside Memorial Auditorium.
Schedule for Sunday, July 3
10 a.m.-10 p.m.: ALPACA presents a two-day Arts and Crafts Fair at the Athens Bicentennial Park behind the Athens City Pool.
5:30-11 p.m. The Plains Lions Club hosts a cruise-in at the Athens Community Center. Live broadcasting is provided by WEAK Radio.
6-8 p.m. Take the kids to the Free Pool Party at the Athens City Pool, sponsored by the Alexander and Athens High School Leo Clubs. Bring a food item for donation.
6-7 p.m. Register on-site for the Kenneth Kerr Memorial Fun 5K Run/Walk. T-shirts will be given out to the first 40 people to register.
7:30 p.m. Participate in the Kenneth Kerr Memorial Fun 5K Run/Walk along the Hocking Adena Bikeway. Showers will be available after the run.
8 p.m. Reminisce at "Remember Then" concert behind the Athens City Pool.
9-11 p.m.WATH/WXTQ radio broadcasts live from the Market on State parking lot.
10 p.m. Watch the fireworks from the Community Center and the Market on State parking lots. Music will be played at both sites. Plus, of course, fireworks fans can watch them from good vantage points all along East State Street, though the further west you go, the smaller the display will appear.
July 4 Schedule of Events
8:30 a.m. Line-up for the Fabulous Fourth Parade begins at OU's Memorial Auditorium. All entries are welcome.
9:20 a.m. If you missed the Run/Walk on the July 3, you can still support the Kenneth Kerr Memorial with the Fun 5K Run/Walk on Monday. The Run/Walk begins at OU's Howard Park on the corner of East Union and College streets.
9:30 a.m.Show your patriotism at The Fabulous Fourth Parade, which extends two miles from East Union Street to the Athens Community Center. For more detailed route information, visit the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce's website.
10 a.m.-10 p.m.: Don't miss the last day of the ALPACA Arts and Crafts Fair at the Athens Bicentennial Park.
Events in Nelsonville
The "Thunder in the Valley" celebration in Nelsonville on Monday, July 4, features a 25-minute fireworks display synchronized to music provided by WXTQ-FM Radio.
Before the fireworks, take the family to the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway and enjoy food and beverages on the Hocking College campus. This year's schedule of events for Independence Day in Nelsonville will not disappoint.

12-2:30 p.m.: Take in the beauty of southeastern Ohio with the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad. Ticket information is available at www.hvsry.org.
8 p.m.Enjoy the evening with family and friends at the Hocking College Campus. Bring your own food or purchase food and beverages from vendors on campus.
Shuttles will be available to transport individuals from the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad Depot to Hocking College. Shuttles leave the Depot at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 and 9:30 and cost $4 per person.
10 p.m.The "Thunder in the Valley" Fireworks Spectacular, presented by the Nelsonville Area Chamber of Commerce, begins. This year's display will be choreographed to music simulcast by WXTQ, 105.5 FM, so be sure to bring a radio and tune into the music. Fireworks can be viewed from most areas of Nelsonville.
Parking will be available at Hocking College. Parking is prohibited on the Hocking Parkway and Ohio Rt. 691. Alcoholic beverages and grills are not permitted on campus.
Shuttle service will be available after the show at $4 per person.
