Armed robbers strike in store parking lot

By Athens NEWS Staff
Three men were arrested in Pomeroy, Ohio, Monday, for allegedly robbing two people at gunpoint in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart store on East State Street in Athens.

Charged with aggravated robbery and kidnapping were 26-year-old John J. Wallace of Hamilton, Ohio, and 24-year-old Marco A. Delgado, no fixed address. Charged with complicity to these offenses was Gabriel S. T. Hill, 19, of Portland, Ohio.

According to a release from the Athens Police, the agency got a call shortly after 8 p.m. that two male victims had been robbed at gunpoint in the store lot, with the robbers taking their cash and cell phones.

The suspects fled in a vehicle, the release said, and "through leads and investigative efforts" were located about 45 minutes later in Pomeroy.

Agencies that assisted on the case were the Athens Police, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Meigs and Gallia County Major Crimes Task Force.

After being apprehended, the three suspects were taken to the Athens Police Department for further investigation and charges.

Officers at the scene of the arrest in Meigs County allegedly located two handguns in the vehicle, as well as cash and narcotics. The vehicle was towed to Athens.
