Allowing gay marriage would hurt everyone with a soul, hope for heaven

I would like to respond to Jason Klein's letter of Aug. 16 about California Proposition 8. He poses the question, "Who would be hurt?" in regard to same-sex marriage. He further states that calling it sin "is not a good answer."

I am acutely aware of whom it can hurt. I had an uncle who died at a young age from AIDS because he was a homosexual. I know that's not the only way to contract the disease, but it's what happened in this case. And, if that isn't enough to answer the question, why not step back and take a realistic look at what the breakdown of family ethics is doing to our youth? No respect for parents, the law, religion or one another.

No matter how legal or generally accepted it becomes, homosexuality still will be a sin separating one from God. If our souls are obedient to Jesus in this short lifetime, then we stand to inherit eternal life with our Lord.

Who would be hurt? Everyone, Mr. Klein, everyone with a soul and a hope for heaven.

You are taking this line of thought WAY too personally. You can't control strangers' actions or modify their beliefs the any more than youcouldn't manage "save" your uncle. You couldn't hold him back any more than you can hold back the "youth" whose ideals you claim to be protecting.

Frankly, you ought to keep your nose clean. So your uncle died. THERE ARE GREATER TRADEDIES IN THE WORLD. For example, the feelings of shame, worthlessness, unnecessary guilt, and ultimate self-doubt -- not to mention money -- that your uncle would have felt had he been pushed/guilted into an "ex-gay ministry," which is exactly what you seem to be advocating. (Pssst: THEY'RE STILL GAY)

You sould let people choose their own walk of life, in whatever way it seems right to them. You have no claim over anyone except yourself. It really has nothing to do with you! Give others the benefit of the doubt that they can choose their own beliefs. Family? What is family? Your idea of "family" is outmoded, and you should move on.

Here is what you wrote:

"...take a realistic look at what the breakdown of family ethics is doing to our youth? No respect for parents, the law, religion or one another."

Why not get a chainsaw and extract the large wooden tree that's poking your eye out, *coughcough*

Frankly, the beliefs you hold are antiquated, and to use your vote or treat anyone unlike whom you happen to disagree with is UN-Christlike. Writing a backwards letter whining about how you were robbed of your uncle because he was gay and how that felt to you, perhaps take up scrapbooking or genealogy, and leave us feckless youth to ourselves.

"Who would be hurt? Everyone, Mr. Klein, everyone with a soul and a hope for heaven."

Son, the only person hurting is yourself. You're acting like you speak for everyone, yet you are only responsible for yourself. Get a clue.

Are you arguing that we should ban homosexuality altogether or just gay marriage?  Maybe we should bring back anti-sodomy laws?  I don't understand your argument at all.  Your uncle died because he was allowed to practice sodomy?

Just thought i'd post this for those who have never read it. It's kind of old, but points to religious arguments that express why God doesn't have a problem with homosexuals. It actually breaks down each scripture traditionally used to argue against homosexuality on a religious context and shows the error in translation and interpretation.

Here goes:

Although I agree that religious views are immaterial to laws regarding homosexuals (Separation of church and state duh), I still feel it proves as a good way to form rebuttal to religious arguments, as well as a positive influence for those that are Christian and Gay or Ally.
