The Athens County Sheriff's Office, with help from state, federal and local law enforcement agencies, arrested seven men and two women last week in a sweep "œwhich targeted individuals dealing in illegal drugs in Athens County," according to a news release.
Seven of those arrested were charged with drug-related offenses, according to the release, while two were charged with non-drug crimes.
Those arrested, and their charges on arrest, are as follows:
"¢ Steven R. Spears, 45, Glouster, two counts of aggravated drug trafficking and two counts of aggravated drug possession.
"¢ Jeffrey W. Degarmore, 43, Glouster, aggravated drug trafficking.
"¢ Seth A. Weaver, 26, Amesville, two counts of aggravated drug trafficking.
"¢ Melissa J. Rutter, 29, Athens, heroin possession and heroin trafficking.
"¢ Glenn E. Rutter III, 31, heroin possession and heroin trafficking.
"¢ Ashley D. Williams, 23, Glouster, heroin trafficking.
"¢ James L. Smith, 29, Athens, heroin possession and heroin trafficking.
"¢ Patrick Brian Donovan, 28, Chauncey, burglary and felonious assault.
"¢ Larry Sheridan, 34, Glouster, criminal trespass (a misdemeanor); wanted on a warrant out of Perry County.
The arrests were made by his office's narcotics unit led by Det. Jerry Hallowell. Assisting in the sweep were the U.S. Marshal's Office, the Ohio Adult Parole Authority, and local law enforcement agencies.
