"˘ Donkey Musicians' Open Stage, 9-11 p.m. Donkey Coffee and Espresso. (During finals week at OU, Donkey will remain open 24 hours, though not much entertainment is scheduled during this time.)

ART:

"˘ "The Far Side of Function: Contemporary Wood Sculpture." Michael Stadler is serving as curator of this exhibit, which will feature approximately 60 artworks. The Dairy Barn Arts Center, Athens. Through Nov. 22.
"˘ "Please Touch" at the Athens County Historical Society and Museum features interactive, hands-on exhibits that immerse visitors in the stories of Athens County. Through fall 2010. 65 N. Court St., Athens. Visit www.athenshistory.org for more information and admission costs.
"˘ Selections from the Permanent Collections. This exhibition juxtaposes pieces from Kennedy Museum's permanent collections including weavings, prints, paintings, ceramics and African art. Kennedy Museum of Art, OU.
"˘ "The First American West: Frontier and Freedom in Athens County." This hands-on exhibit examines the extraordinary journey of the early settlers to southeast Ohio. Athens County Historical Society & Museum, North Court Street, Athens.
"˘ The Office of Multicultural Programs at OU is hosting the exhibit "Wood Shaping Me" by Mamerto Tindongan. Multicultural Center Art Gallery, Baker Center, OU. Through Nov. 20.
"˘ "Collections Collected: The University Collects and Athens Collects Miniatures." A project by Mark Dion with the Kennedy Museum of Art. A collaborative project between the Kennedy Museum and the OU School of Art, displaying collections of objects from selected Ohio University departmental collections and collections of miniatures and small objects from the Athens community. Kennedy Museum of Art. Through Nov. 29.
"˘ Rebecca Steinberg opens a display of her photographs at Donkey Coffee. 4-6 p.m. Show runs through Dec. 31.
"˘ Dan Price's "The Necessary Friction of the Machine" features a paper sculpture and iconography that reflect the experiences of laid-off General Motors employees who worked on the assembly line. Kennedy Museum of Art. Through Jan. 24, 2010.
"˘ Second-Year Graduate Student Exhibition. Ohio University Art Gallery, Seigfred Hall. Exhibit runs through Nov. 19.

Christian Meeting: Led by UCM Center for Spiritual Growth & Social Justice and the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, every Thursday of the academic quarter at noon in OU Baker 229. The hour-long sessions will be based on Living the Questions "“ a progressive Christian approach to scripture. Great American Smokeout: The local chapter of Nicotine Anonymous meets on this special day for folks who are trying to quit tobacco. 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Christ the King in Athens. Open to anyone who has made a decision to stop using cigarettes and other nicotine products.

Theater: The Athens High School drama program is presenting "Bang Bang You're Dead." 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, then 2 p.m. on Sunday at Athens High School. See article in this issue for details.

Film: The premiere of Ohio Landscape Productions' new video, "Ora E. Anderson: The Soul of the Woods," will take place at The Dairy Barn Arts Center, 1000 Dairy Lane, in Athens. 8-9 p.m. Copies of the DVD and booklet will be for sale, with proceeds benefitting the Ora Anderson Conservation Fund. Fall Artisan Event: The Nelsonville Historic Square Arts District offers a new fall artisan event every Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. through Thanksgiving. Studios and galleries will have artists on hand working in the studios who will share their processes with visitors.

Lunch: Saturday Lunch is a weekly free community meal served at 1 p.m. in the lower level of UCM, 18 N. College St., Athens, through Nov. 14. Volunteers and donations are welcome with advanced notice. 593-7301.

Film: Thesis film screening of "Beautiful People," by Pradeep Edussuriya, and "Risings," a film by Chad Bartlett. 6 p.m. Baker Center Theater, Baker Center, OU. Also a few old films will be screened.

"˘ Restaurant Salaam, in its new location at 21 W. Washington St., is presenting live jazz music on Sundays from 6-8 p.m. This show features Jim Wachtel and Terry Douds.
"˘ Athens High Society Jazz Band plays Dixieland favorites at Abrio's Ristorante, 859 E. State St. 3:30-6:30 p.m.

Thanksgiving Dinner: Living Water Worship Center invites the community to a Thanksgiving dinner at 6 p.m. at the church, located just west of the OU airport on Route 32. Transportation is available by calling (740) 698-3130.
