Woman who didn't get promised cruise probably will survive

To the Editor:

I was disturbed to read that the Athens County Democratic Party owes $5,000 to Ann Lavelle for the cruise that she paid for. I hope that the Democratic Party works swiftly to return the money. That said, I was more disturbed to read Mrs. Lavelle's remark about the delay in getting her $5,000 back: "My concern is I'm losing (financial) interest. I could have had that money invested. How long is it going to take? How many years?"

Mrs. Lavelle should consider that this country is in an economic downturn right now. Most people in Athens County do not have the luxury of bidding $8,000 on a cruise valued at $14,000, nor do they have the luxury of flying to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and then renting another boat at the cost of $9,000. Mrs. Lavelle said, "I'm disgusted, completely."

After reading about her 'financial hardship,' I, too, am disgusted... with her. Please don't expect sympathy from people about the "financial interest" you're losing off $5,000, Mrs. Lavelle. I think you and your family will manage to scrape by. Maybe you can go to Amish country for your vacation this year, right here in Ohio, instead of the Virgin Islands.

If she had the $5000 invested over the past couple of years she would have lost money...

And if the local Dem party backed up their promises with the action ---- wait, what am I thinking. The rules don't apply here, do they? This is what we have come to expect -- if you can afford something, then you don't deserve it. It's an extension of the whole Dem redistribution of wealth to support goverment largesse - only at the local level. You took the woman's money, promised something in return, and then backed out. Thieves think and act like thieves, and are supported by thieves.

Hocking Hick, Your opinion lacks any facts, and comes across as baiting. Using other than blogs, support your statements with facts, for a change. If you simply wish to be mean spirited..., enjoy yourself, it simply shows who you are.

If she paid for it, she should get her money back. I dont feel sorry for her though. I am sure she is not going without due to the loss.

If you remember WHY the Dems have not paid her back, you wouldn;t be as disturbed. They spent it on a number of elections that have occurred between the time she won, and when the trouble started. Yes, they owe this money still. Which they've acknowledged. But you can't get blood from a turnip. As for her "financial hardship"....... maybe if they shut the heaters off on the driveway once in a while, they could save enough money.
