Charles E. Mace

Charles E. Mace, 85, of New Marshfield, died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Arcadia Acres Nursing Center, Logan. Born October 22, 1924 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Eli "œPete" Mace and Elsie Jolley Mace Whitlatch.

A graduate of Waterloo High School, he was a former resident of Hammond, Indiana. He was employed as a chemist for Dupont Chemical Co. in Chicago, Ill.

He was a member of Highland VFW Post 1109 (Indiana).   A U.S. Army veteran of World War II he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was wounded in the battle of Saipan and awarded the Purple Heart.

Charles is survived by a sister, Charlotte Chesser of New Marshfield; a niece, Sharon Lightfritz of New Marshfield; and several nieces and nephews; also a special friend, Jeannie Llewellyn of Athens.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Silogy Mace in 2004; an infant son, Leslie Mace; two sister- Verna Covert and Martha Danks.

Graveside service will be held Thursday in Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana with Military Rites and Honors. Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
