One killed, two injured in Rt. 13 crash Sunday morning

By Athens NEWS Staff

A McConnelsville woman died in a one-car crash early Sunday on Ohio Rt. 13 in the village of Trimble, according to a report filed by the Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The report said that Stephanie J. Gaddis, 33, died from injuries received in the crash. She was a passenger in a car driven by Jason W. Riley, 37 of Glouster, the report said.

Riley suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Med-Flight to the Ohio State University Medical Center, according to the report. A second passenger, Howard K. Holcomb, 38, of Glouster, also suffered serious injuries in the crash, and like Riley, was flown to the OSU Medical Center for treatment.

A source at OSU Medical Center reported early Sunday afternoon that Holcombe was in fair condition, and Riley was in serious condition.

The report said that Riley was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier south on Ohio Rt. 13 at 1:25 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of the vehicle, traveled off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation, according to the Highway Patrol report.

Why is it always the passengers who die in these accident......

REPLY TO THIS COMMENT
The passenger usually dies in most accidents because the driver will usually correct the car to avoid hitting objects on his side of the vehicle often causing the passenger side of the vehicle to take the brunt of the damage. Rt 13 and 377 and 78 are all death traps because too many people drive on them like they are major interstates. I don't know how many times I've almost been hit in a head on collision by a large pick up going left of center on these roads! People need to slow down!
