A source at the Ohio Elections Commission confirmed Friday that on Nov. 7, the OEC ruled that Athens County Prosecutor C. David Warren violated campaign-finance reporting rules during his 2008 re-election bid.
However, the commission found that the violation had been fixed and did not merit a fine, other sanctions or referral for criminal prosecution.
A Glouster resident had filed a complaint with the OEC, based on the fact that the Ohio Secretary of State's Web site, where candidates must file campaign-finance information, lists about $4,250 worth of contributions to Warren's campaign from the Ohio Democratic Party, which weren't included in his finance reports filed with the Athens County Board of Elections.
Warren has admitted the reporting failure, but said it resulted from the fact that a letter from the state party reporting the donations didn't get to his campaign on time.
He has since filed an amended finance report that includes the donations.
