Helen C. Shank, 94, of Athens, died Thursday morning, November 12, 2009 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains. Born April 12, 1915 in Wilkesville, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Izel Jones Foley.
A graduate of Wilkesville High School, she had worked as an attendant at the Athens State Hospital. She was a 25 year member of Wilkesville Grange, a member of the Athens Senior Club and attended the Glouster United Methodist Church.
Helen is survived by a daughter, Leona (David) McAfee of Columbus; two sons- Ovid Shank of Claremore, OK and Rev. Wearthy (Wanda) Shank of Fox, OK; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; twenty-three great, great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Strong of The Plains; and special friends- Jim and Verna Rutter and Verna Mulpas all of Redtown.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Wearthy Shank, in 1988; a son and daughter in law- James Everett and Wilda Shank; granddaughter, Amy Lou Shank; a great granddaughter, Ivory South; and a sister, Frances King.
Funeral service will be conducted Sunday 1:00PM in Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with her son, Rev. Wearthy Shank officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens. Friends may call Saturday 2-4 and 7-9PM and one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home. Following the service on Sunday a luncheon will be held at the First Church of God, Columbus Rd., Athens.
