Crimes for November

By Athens NEWS Staff

Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous has listed the below crimes as Crimes of the Month for November 2009. The information comes from a press release.

"¢ During the past several years, Athens County has seen an increase in the use of heroin, and several deaths have occurred due to heroin overdoses.   Athens County law enforcement agencies are requesting information regarding the person or persons responsible for transporting the heroin into Athens County and for those who are selling the heroin once it arrives in our county, according to the news release.

"¢ The Athens Police are seeking information regarding an assault that occurred at the Maplewood Inn on East State Street. According to the victim, he was approached by two male subjects in the parking lot located at the rear of the Maplewood. He stated that the two subjects held his arms behind his back while a third subject began assaulting him. He was then dropped to the ground where the third subject picked his head up and slammed it into the ground, according to the release. This assault occurred on Friday night, Oct.16, at approximately 11:30.

"¢ Athens Police are also seeking information regarding the armed robbery of the Cold Stone Creamery located at 8 N. Court St. On Thursday morning, Oct. 8, at 10:30 a subject entered the ice-cream shop where he confronted the employee on duty, showed a small handgun and demanded all the money in the store. Upon the manager placing the money into a large, white burlap sack, the robber left the store through the back door of the business and into the alley beside of Athens City Hall. The robber was described as a Hispanic male, 6' tall and 170 pounds with a shaved head and a goatee, according to the news release. He was wearing a white t-shirt and baggy pair of gray sweatpants.

"¢ The Ohio University Police Department and the Athens City Police are seeking information regarding the large amount of graffiti being seen throughout the OU campus and the city. It is apparent that the graffiti is the work of several individuals as it is unique in its own way. OU has experienced the "crime dog" being painted on vehicles and buildings while the city of Athens has seen numerous graffiti or tagging.

If you have information regarding any of the above crimes, call Crime Solvers Anonymous at 594-3331. If the information leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible, you are eligible to receive a $2,000 cash reward, according to the release. If you are willing to testify to the information provided, the cash reward will double to $4,000.

If you have information in regards to other crimes, call Crime Solvers Anonymous as other cash rewards are available if the information results in the arrest and/or indictment of the person or persons responsible.

The news release noted that Crime Solvers Anonymous "needs your information and not your name."
