Roger L. Butterbaugh, 87, of The Plains, died Wednesday morning, November 4, 2009 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. Born October 21, 1922 in Chillicothe, he was the son of the late Clarence L. and Alma Mae Cramblit Butterbaugh.
A 1941 graduate of Chillicothe High School, he retired from Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Co. in 1984 as an engineer and supervisor of the engineering department of the electric company. He completed his electrical engineering degree through I.C.S and Ohio University in 1968. He was a member of Christ Community Wesleyan Church and lived his life for God and Jesus Christ.
He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II serving as a crew chief with the 412th Fighter Squadron working on P-38, P-39, and P-51 Mustang as well as the P-80 and P-59 jet aircraft.
Roger is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sarah Cunningham Butterbaugh; two daughters, Cathy (William) Hines of Chillicothe and Susan (Joseph) Ipacs of Athens; two sons- David (Linda) Butterbaugh of Circleville and Dale (Trisha) Butterbaugh of Gatha, Florida; eight grandchildren- Amy (Kevin) Winston, David A. Butterbaugh, Jill (Ryan) Shumaker, Billy (Wendy) Hines, Jarrod (Courtney) Hines, Joey Ipacs, Christopher Ipacs and Elizabeth Butterbaugh; also surviving are eight great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by an infant sister, a sister Bernice Woodruff and two brothers, Carl and Ralph Butterbaugh.
Funeral service will be conducted Sunday 2:00PM in Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev. Denver Dodrill officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens. Friends may call Saturday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the funeral home.
