Lee Edward Linn

Lee Edward Linn, of The Plains, OH, formerly of Springfield and Elverson, PA, died on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, following a long, heroic battle with Parkinson's disease.

He was the husband of Julia Gilbert Linn, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on January 29th of this year.

Son of the late Charles and Bertha (Slusser) Linn, Lee was born on March 24, 1927 in Catawissa, PA. A graduate of West Chester State College, he held a Master's degree from The University of Pennsylvania and completed doctoral coursework at Temple University. Lee served in the United States Army during and after World War II.

A career choral music teacher, Lee taught at Ridley High School from 1956 to 1982. He also served as organist and choir director at several churches, including St. Paul's United Church of Christ and St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, both in Springfield. Following his retirement from teaching, he worked for the Delaware County Tourist Bureau. He served as Scoutmaster of Cub Scout Pack 419 and assisted in researching Springfield's 300th anniversary.

Lee founded The Ridley Community Chorus and served as its Director for 20 years. As a member of The Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, he performed and recorded with The Philadelphia Orchestra.

Lee enjoyed music, gardening, refinishing furniture, puzzles, maps and traveling; he was passionate about his study of covered bridges, his family's genealogy and American history.

In addition to Julia, he is survived by his son David of Lancaster, PA, husband of Cheryl and father of Andrew, son Richard of Millfield, OH, husband of Brooke and father of Nicholas and Elizabeth, by his brother Ben of Lebanon, PA, and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and a sister.
