To the Editor:
Christine Fahl is the clear choice to elect back to City Council's Fourth Ward tomorrow.
Ms. Fahl supports the city's acquisition of 600 acres of land along Armitage Road. This would be our back-up system and new water source. This would be our back-up system to ruined well-fields where we now get some of our water. We need this because of the ruination of some of the current well-fields due to development, parking lots and other uses that threaten to poison our water.
Support a champion like Christine Fahl who wants to protect our water. Her challenger would help to kill this option.
Ms. Fahl is a skeptical voice on council. It's her skepticism that has helped balance the power in our community between developers, landlords and the people who live here. Before Christine Fahl, this balance was skewed heavily toward developers and landlords to the detriment of residents who live in Athens. I see her challenger skewing this balance back toward the lowest bidders for Athens' assets.
Ms. Fahl has been engaged in city issues as a concerned citizen for years before she got on council so she has a good working knowledge on how our city works. She did a lot of her learning and hard knocks as an engaged citizen. Her opponent is unknown until running for council.
We need someone like Christine Fahl who doesn't have to learn on the job in order to represent the Fourth Ward and the citizens of Athens. She supports positive initiatives that will help move our city forward in a progressive direction.
