Athens Police reported 24 arrests overnight Friday night, the first night of the big Halloween weekend. This is the same amount they reported after Halloween Friday last year.
In a report issued Saturday morning, APD Lt. Anthony Fish said the department handled 38 calls for service between 7 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday, and 24 arrests processed through booking during that time. Sixteen were made by Athens Police officers, five by OU Police officers, and three by state liquor agents.
These numbers don't include people cited on the street but not taken to jail.
"The warm weather brought out a fairly large crowd," Fish wrote in his report. "For the most part, the revelers were cooperative and non-confrontational."
All arrested persons were scheduled for Athens County Municipal Court Saturday morning at 9:30. Every Athens Halloween weekend, the court schedules a special Saturday morning hearing for people arrested Friday night.
Fish broke down the incidents that required police response as follows:
Twelve disorderly conduct/alcohol-related incidents, three fights, one assault, one vandalism, seven noise complaints, two vehicle crashes with minor damages, one theft and one robbery.
The arrests included charges for nine intoxication/disorderly conduct, three under-age consumption, one possession of psilocybin mushroom, one robbery, one complicity to commit robbery, and four underage consumption/possession of alcohol.
These numbers, Fish said, do not include street-issued citations or citations/arrests by other agencies)
Last year, on the main Halloween night, Saturday, police reported 53 total arrests. In 2007, they reported 34 arrests on Saturday night.
