To the Editor:
I tip my hat to Dover Township Trustee David Bobo, who promptly responded to a large heap of garbage dumped near a drainage culvert 20 feet from the Hocking River beside Hamley Run Road parallel to the bike path on June 15.
Not only did Mr. Bobo contact the Athens County Sheriff's Office but he put on his gloves to assist the deputy in digging into the garbage to try and find a clue that could link the garbage to the culprit who dumped it!
Mr. Bobo said this garbage is not only an eyesore for people using the bike path, the river and Hamley Run Road but it will wash into the river the next time it rains, creating problems for the river if the garbage contains contaminating pollutants.
Mr. Bobo made arrangements with fellow Trustees Chris Russell and Charlie Pidcock to get the garbage "outta there ASAP." With the help of George Bateman (Bateman's Refuse Hauling Service) and an unknown fisherman, Mr. Bobo cleaned that mess up pronto! And yes it did rain and the river rose to the dump area.
I thank you Mr. Bobo for taking decisive action.
I also thank the Sheriff's Department for putting pressure on this type of riff-raff activity in Athens County.
P.S. Fish and Wildlife, thank you, too!
