Francis Arnold Coen, age 79, of Stewart, died Thursday morning, May 8, 2008 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens.  Born Sept. 21, 1928 in Rome Township, Athens County, he was the son of the late Kenneth W. & Bessie Lonas Coen.

He attended school at Rome-Canaan School and retired from the Athens Mental Health Center. He was a former Athens County Sheriff’s Deputy and an Athens Merchant’s Policeman. An avid hunter and fisherman, Francis was always proud of his vegetable gardens he raised yearly. He enjoyed working in his workshop and walking his companion, 15 year old “Willie” around Stewart.

Francis is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eleanor Martha Allen Coen; a daughter- Carol (Jerry) Harris of Stewart; four grandchildren- Carrie (Michael) Martin of Stewart, Michael Chaney of Athens, Matthew Chaney of New Marshfield, Kayla Chaney of Stewart; two great grandchildren- Taylor & Tyler Martin; four sisters- Eva Llewellyn of The Plains, Gladys Keirns of The Plains, Virginia (Alfred) Chutes and Linda (David) Powell both of Coolville; six brothers- Edward (Millie) Coen of Wilksville, Leo (Edna) Coen of Albany, Earl (Betty) Coen and Pearl (Wanda) Coen both of Coolville, Danny (Lona) Coen of Chauncey and Joe Coen of Cutler; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Coen and two infant brothers. 

Funeral service will be conducted Sunday 1:00PM at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with burial in Stewart Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday 5-8PM at the funeral home.
