Vivian D. Chapman, age 84, of Athens died Thursday afternoon, May 1, 2008 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. Born April 21, 1924 in Lawrence, Washington, she was the daughter of the late Allen L. & Jessie Morrison Holstein.
A 1942 graduate of Belpre High School and a graduate of the Parkersburg community college, she had been employed with the Federal Government in Parkersburg. She was also employed with Chapman’s Jewelry and assisted in the operation of several family businesses. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Athens, the Guild of O’Bleness Memorial Hospital and A.F.A.N.
She was an avid bridge player, belonging to several bridge clubs. In 1999 she was awarded the Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League.
Vivian is survived by a daughter, Sherry D. (John) Sanders of Jonesborough, Tennessee; two sons- Greg (Jana) Chapman of Athens and Keith (Laura) Chapman of Athens; seven grandchildren- Jennifer (David Cornwell) Messina, Jeffrey Messina, Katherine Messina, Mark (Monica) Chapman, Kelly Chapman, Julia Chapman and Douglas Chapman; four great grandchildren- Abby, Jack, & Ryan Cornwell and Ella Chapman.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by Joseph Chapman; three sisters- Ione Clinton, Orga Janes and Bernice Dils; two brothers- Elmer & Russell Holstein.
Funeral service will be conducted Monday 11:00AM at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home by Rev. Paul Risler with burial in West Union St. Cemetery, Athens.
