Betty Lou Dunfee, age 79, of Athens died Wednesday afternoon, April 30, 2008 at Rockmill Rehabilitation Center, Carroll. Born May 2, 1928 in Ames Township, Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Roy & Delta Keirns Mayles.

She attended Chauncey-Dover High School and retired from Ohio University where she worked in food service and as a custodian. She had been a foster parent for over twenty-five years and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.

Betty is survived by two sons- John K. (Janice) Dunfee of Athens and Greg Dunfee of the Plains; a step daughter, Sue Devol of Zanesville; thirteen grandchildren- Tana (Tom) Clark, Scott (Kara) Dunfee, Jay Dunfee, Amy Dunfee, Shawna (Jack) Moore, Tonya Dunfee, Paul Dunfee, Roy Dunfee, Anna Dunfee, Jessica Dunfee, Billy Dunfee, Aubrey Dunfee and Sidney Dunfee; thirteen great grandchildren; three sisters- Charlotte Smathers of Athens, Phyllis Bennett of Chauncey and Maxine Hamilton of Bucyrus; a brother, Delbert Mayles of Millfield.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John L. Dunfee in 1993; two sons- Eugene & Billy Dunfee; six sister- Josephine Gleason, Nellie Phillips, Ruth Davenport, Mildred Weekley, Bernice Thompson and Opal Eismon; two brothers- Duward Mayles and Martin Keirns. 

Funeral service will be conducted Sunday 4:00PM at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens by Will Trevis with burial in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield. Friends may call Saturday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the funeral home.
